Special Land Use Permit (SLUP)

Mari Vineyards

Mari Vineyards is a unique project because 16,000 square feet of the approximately 22,000 square feet structure are below ground. The below-ground space is dedicated to processing and winemaking, while the above-ground space is a tasting room with sweeping views of the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay.

Project Info

One of the client’s goals was to create a carbon-neutral site, so many modern construction techniques were incorporated into the design including geothermal insulation, bio-fuel furnaces, and an option for solar power in the future. Extensive permitting was needed for this project including MDEQ permits and a Winery/Chateau Special Use Permit in the Agriculture District.
